Not all British Columbians are thrilled about returning to the office five days a week, results from a new survey suggest.

According to a recent survey conducted by International Workplace Group, 48 per cent of B.C. respondents said they would consider changing jobs if asked to return to the office five days per week.

The survey also found that 85 per cent said hybrid work improved their work/life balance, 81 per cent of B.C. workers felt hybrid working was an important factor when looking for a new job, 79 per cent said hybrid work has been good for their mental health, 77 per cent said hybrid work has allowed more time for hobbies or seeing friends, and 71 per cent said being able to choose where they work helps their job performance.

However, the survey, which took place from April 29 to May 2, notes that the results should be viewed with caution given the smaller sample size of 1,012 people.

Still, Wayne Berger, chief executive officer of IWG Americas, said in a release that the results suggest that employers who don’t offer some form of hybrid work are going to miss out on top talent.

“With a buoyant job market after a challenging couple of years, workers are demanding more of their employers and their roles. Gone are the days when salary was the only factor when considering a job offer, and nothing better demonstrates this than the rise of hybrid working,” said Berger.

The survey has an estimated margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points with a 95 per cent confidence level.
