Surveillance footage leads to arrest in break and enter at Royal Canadian Legion in Qualicum Beach

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a break-in at the Royal Canadian Legion in Qualicum Beach.

Oceanside RCMP say they received an alarm call at approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday.

Officers arrived to find that the Legion had been broken into and a suspect had stolen liquor.

The items were found in a bush nearby and returned to the premises.

Police say that staff at the legion were able to provide officers with high-quality surveillance footage.

Later Thursday, RCMP located the suspect while patrolling in Qualicum Beach and he was arrested without incident.

This is another case in which high quality surveillance footage was instrumental to the investigators and ultimately led to an arrest, said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.

The 23-year-old, of no fixed address, makes his first court appearance in Nanaimo on Friday.
