A busy stretch of road in Saanich is now closed to traffic for around two months as extensive road improvements get underway.

According to the District of Saanich, Burnside Road West from Charlton Road to just before Prospect Lake Road is shuttered starting today (July 7).

In a press release, officials urge drivers to plan ahead, as delays are likely.

The district says the road will be closed for the project’s duration, with work including regrading and repaving, replacing a roadside barrier, and adding extra signage and paved shoulders to both lanes.

Construction will be split into phases, the release states, with the intersection of Prospect Lake Road and Burnside Road West staying open throughout most of the project.

“Detour routes will be available via Watkiss Way,” the district added.

Project commencement comes just days after crews wrapped up construction on phase one of the Shelbourne Street Improvements Project (SSIP), which focuses on cycling and pedestrian safety.
