Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for possible snow on Vancouver Island.
A “strong Pacific frontal system” will bring with it snowfall accumulations of up to five centimetres for higher elevations of 200 to 300 metres.
The weather statement is in effect for Greater Victoria, the Malahat Highway from Goldstream to Mill Bay, and east Vancouver Island from Courtenay to Campbell River, Duncan to Nanaimo and Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay.
Warmer air is expected to push in on Saturday morning and will change the snow into rain.
Environment Canada warns that mountain weather can change suddenly, creating hazardous conditions for drivers.
