Elderly man missing from B.C. Ferries vessel between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen

An elderly man went missing from the B.C. Ferries vessel Coastal Celebration, en route to Tsawwassen from Swartz Bay Thursday night.

B.C. Ferries crews were left with an empty vehicle at the end of the 9 p.m. sailing, after they swept the ship they contacted Delta police and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

JRCC launched a search of the area with about five other vessels and a Coast Guard hovercraft last night. The area was reduced at 8 a.m. this morning, and has now been called off.

A representative from the agency says they have handed the file over to Delta police.

Police say more details will be released this afternoon.

CCTV footage onboard the vessel was reviewed and officials say they did not see any signs of anyone going into the water.
