Road to Recovery: Advocating for small businesses during the pandemic

CHEK

In this week’s segment of Road to Recovery with Douglas Magazine, CHEK’s Jasmine Bala chats with Bruce Williams, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce is the largest one on Vancouver Island, with about 1,400 members. The chamber represents the interests of businesses of all sizes as well as organizations in the not-for-profit sector. About 80 per cent of its membership is made up of small businesses with 25 employees or less, according to the chamber’s website.

Williams hears from businesses across all sectors and is attuned to what business owners have gone through over the past year and a half. Through the pandemic, the chamber has stepped up advocacy work to government on behalf of its members and has come up with new ways to support them, including promotional campaigns and educational seminars.

Williams discusses in this episode what challenges small businesses have faced, how the chamber has supported them, and how businesses can navigate the next year.

Road to Recovery is done in partnership with Douglas Magazine.
