The Nanaimo RCMP are investigating a break-and-enter that resulted in an estimated $100,000 in jewelry being stolen from a store in Woodgrove Centre.

The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at Peoples Jewellers in the mall on Island Highway in Nanaimo.

Mounties, including Police Dog Services, arrived on scene “within minutes,” but the suspects were not found, according to RCMP in a release Tuesday.

They say the suspects broke through an exterior entrance to the mall and went directly to the jewelry store.

“A security gate was broken through and several glass cases in the business were broken into and their contents taken,” said RCMP.

Video sent to CHEK News shows the extent of the damage:

RCMP says security footage, which is not being released at this time, shows three people wearing dark clothing with hoods pulled up covering their faces.

“We are certain this was not a random incident but one that was well orchestrated and carried out with a degree of planning and coordination. With that in mind, investigators are liaising with other police agencies to determine if other similar thefts have occurred in their jurisdiction,” said Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
