A pedestrian has died after being hit by a driver on Thursday morning, according to Sooke RCMP.

Around 5:30 a.m., RCMP was called to the 6900 block of West Coast Road in Sooke for a report that a woman had been hit by a driver.

BC Emergency Health Services and the Sooke Fire Department also attended and attempted to resuscitate the 42-year-old woman, but she died at the scene.

The 31-year-old male driver of the vehicle, a GMC Sierra pick up truck, remained at the scene.

Alcohol and drugs are not considered a factor in the crash, but the driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.

The road was closed for a collision analyst to determine the causes that led to the crash.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5141.
