British Columbians can now apply for the province’s COVID-19 recovery benefit of up to $1,000 through an online application.

The BC Recovery Benefit is a one-time, tax-free payment for eligible families, single parents or individuals. The amount you’re eligible for is calculated based on your income.

Families with an annual income of under $125,000 can apply for a benefit of $1,000. A reduced benefit amount will be available for families earning up to $175,000.

Individuals earning less than $62,500 annually will receive a one-time payment of $500. Single people making up to $87,500 will qualify for a reduced amount.

Applying through the province’s online portal is the easiest way to receive the benefit, but those without internet or a computer will still be able to get assistance.

About 350 call centre agents will become available starting Monday to assist anyone who wants to apply over the phone or has questions.

“I’d like to thank the B.C. public service for getting this program up and running so quickly and to the hundreds of Service BC call centre staff who will be helping British Columbians apply for their BC Recovery Benefit,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Finance, in a press release. “Please be patient and respectful to staff over the holidays as call volumes may result in longer wait times.”

Most individuals can expect to receive the benefit within five business days of completing their application.

Applications are open until June 30, 2021.
