The Oceanside RCMP have recovered over $30,000 worth of stolen goods following the arrest of two suspects, believed to be responsible for a series of thefts and break-ins.

According to police, tips were received from the public about two individuals, a male and a female, “lurking” around properties in Nanoose Bay, driving a gold-coloured minivan.

These two were believed to be responsible for the theft of multiple items from the area, including a child’s motorcycle, said Oceanside RCMP.

Police used the public tips and information, along with a forensic examination of a residential break and enter crime scene, to identify a 47-year old man residing in Parksville.

RCMP located the man, the gold-coloured minivan and a 42-year old female in a trailer park in Parksville, leading to their arrest on June 18.

Oceanside RCMP said the man was arrested for break and entry, while the female was arrested for breaching court order conditions.

Following the arrest, police obtained proper warrants to search the residence as well as a storage unit in Nanaimo, leading to the discovery of several stolen items that had previously been reported in Oceanside and Nanaimo.

Police say “a staggering amount of stolen goods” were seized including two stolen vehicles, two motorcycles, a firearm, several bicycles, power tools and hand tools. Officers estimate there were over $30,000 worth of stolen goods found at the two sites.

According to Oceanside RCMP, most of the stolen property has been returned to the rightful owners.

This was excellent police work and I’m proud of the investigation put forth by the officers involved. said Staff Sergeant Marc Pelletier. It is fantastic to get a prolific offender off the streets and to not only solve several break and entries but to get people their property back.

The female who was involved has been released on several conditions and will attend court at a later date, while the man remains in custody and is facing a multitude of charges.
