Oak Bay Police are looking for a man who attempted to lure a 12-year-old student into his vehicle in South Oak Bay.

Police received a report just after 3 p.m. Friday that the man had attempted to lure the student into his car, according to police. Police say the student told police she was walking westbound on the north sidewalk of Central Avenue, west of Hampshire Road, around 2:50 p.m. when a vehicle drove up next to her and followed her for a short distance.

The man tried to talk to the student, offering her candy and a ride home, according to police. They say the student didn’t respond to the man and ran back to school to get help.

A search for the vehicle was done by police afterwards, but they were not able to find it. They say the vehicle is described as being a “vintage” dark shiny green car with an off-white fabric top that was up.

The man was described as being between 50 and 60-years-old with spikey grey/brown hair, an oval face and tattoos below his neck and down his arms. Police say he was wearing either a dark green or black shirt with black jeans and a large gold ring on his right hand.

Police are asking residents in South Oak Bay to check home surveillance footage for a vehicle that matches the description as well as dashcam footage.

Oak Bay PD is asking anyone with information to contact them at 250-592-2424.
