The northbound lane of the Malahat Highway will close overnight between Finlayson Arm Road and Tunnel Hill, the Ministry of Transportation said Wednesday.

The closure will occur between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday.

Drivers will see single-lane alternating traffic in 20-minute intervals and minor delays during the closure.

Traffic will also be slightly delayed between 3 and 4 p.m. Wednesday as equipment is brought to the site and traffic-control measures are implemented.

Further details on the closure can be found on the DriveBC website.

Last month, the province began accepting bids from contractors for major repair work after the Malahat was damaged in a record-setting November 2021 flood.

While temporary fixes have been installed, permanent repairs will include the restoration of about 50 metres of the northbound lane, just north of Finlayson Arm Road, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Damage to drainage and slope stability will also be repaired, and an 80-metre retaining wall will be replaced “to secure the slope against future extreme rain events.”
