‘Like being at an amusement park’: New drive-thru immersive experience coming to Victoria for the holidays

A new contactless, vehicle-only drive-thru experience is coming to town this holiday season.

Victoria Wonderland will transport guests into a 25-minute fully immersive experience made up of projections, animated lights and video screens.

“It’s kind of like being at an amusement park but only you’re the driver,” explained Nicole Sorochan, co-founder of Transcend Victoria. “So as you drive through, you’ll be submerged with beautiful animated lights, thousands of lights, and you’ll be able to go into all of these different holiday-spirited zones.”

Victoria’s iconic Santa Claus light parade and truck light convoy have been cancelled this year due to the pandemic. This new exhibit aims to fill the gap left behind this year, with plans of becoming an annual event.

“We wanted to find something very positive and exciting to do for Victoria in the midst of all the rough times and this seemed like the perfect thing to do,” said Graham Meckling, co-founder of Victoria Wonderland.

This new exhibit, he noted, isn’t going to replace those iconic events, but it will give your family that holiday experience they may have missed otherwise.

Meckling said it’ll be an experience like Victoria has never seen before.

“[It’s] something that I didn’t even know was possible,” he explained. “It’s kind of like green-screen effects, projection mapping, all of these things that people haven’t seen before so coming here won’t be just driving through some Christmas lights, it’ll be larger scale than what you’re used to.”

The show will run from Dec. 7 to 31 at the Breakwater District at Ogden Point. There are only a limited number of tickets, with six shows a day and 50 cars per show.

Victoria Wonderland will have a rate of $40 per vehicle on weekdays and $50 on weekends. A portion of the proceeds will go to local charities, including Victoria Hospice, Power to Be, Make a Wish Foundation and Victoria Women’s Transition House.

Tickets go on sale Nov. 18 and can only be purchased online at www.victoriawonderland.com.
