They can’t bear to be apart from each other.

Nanaimo RCMP’s stuffed bear, aptly named Bear, has a new companion – a stuffed Atlantic Puffin called Jam-Jam.

Bear was sent on a road trip back in 2018. After making a stop at Williams Lake’s Coast Hotel, he attended the Grey Cup in Edmonton. He then went sightseeing around Toronto before he made his way to the east coast.

While in Newfoundland, Cpl. Jolene Garland, one of Bear’s handlers, provided an update.

Garland said Bear appears to be “quite smitten” with Jam-Jam, who doubles as the official mascot for Newfoundland and Labrador. Rumours have it the two were overheard making plans to get off the island and make their way to the ferry.

“Bear is a seasoned traveller, and now with Jam- Jam at his side, we are confident the two will have many happy days ahead of them as they continue on their cross country adventure,” Const. Gary O’Brien, media relations officer with Nanaimo RCMP, said in a release.

Anyone who sees Bear or Jam-Jam on their cross country journey can send an email to nanaimo_media@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
