Nanaimo RCMP has released a picture of a truck that was in the area of a collision where a driver hit a pedestrian, in the hopes that they witnessed the crash.

On Feb. 27 around 11:15 p.m., RCMP officers were called to the 200 block of Nicol Street after a pedestrian was hit by the driver of a Toyota Prius.

The pedestrian, who is a woman in her 50s, was treated at the scene, transported to the Nanaimo hospital with life-threatening injuries, then airlifted to a hospital in Victoria.

The driver remained at the scene, and police have ruled out drugs and alcohol as a factor on the part of the driver.

At the time of the crash, the driver of the Prius was driving southbound on Nicol Street, passing in front of the MGM restaurant, and the pedestrian was crossing the road in an area without a crosswalk, according to RCMP.

The road was closed for around three hours while the investigation took place.

Nanaimo RCMP says the driver of the white pickup truck was in the area of Milton and Nicol streets around the time of the crash and may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone with information on the identity of the driver of the white pickup truck is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
