A police dog named “Juice” is being credited with the arrest of a suspect in Nanaimo who fled an alleged residential break-and-enter Wednesday.

Nanaimo RCMP says a couple came face-to-face with a man in the basement of their home in 1500-block of Marban Drive around noon.

After chasing the man into the driveway, they then called 911 and officers set up containment in the area to allow Juice and his handler, Cst. Clay Wurzinger, to go to work tracking the suspect.

The man was found a short time later and resisted arrest.

The 40-year-old man, who Nanaimo RCMP calls a “prolific offender”, suffered upper body injuries from the attending police dog and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect is expected to be released and transported to the Nanaimo detachment, where he will be held in custody and wait for a court appearance.
