More than 1,200 BC Hydro customers were without power for more than seven hours Saturday on northern Vancouver Island as high winds and another atmospheric river hit the region.

In Alert Bay and Sointula, 1,252 customers northeast of the Island Highway were without power due to a wire down at around 8:20 a.m. Power was restored at around 3:25 p.m., according to BC Hydro’s website.

BC Hydro said crews were preparing for widespread outages as the second in a series of three atmospheric rivers makes its way across the province.

A wind warning has also been issued for the North Island, with Environment Canada predicting winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour with gusts of up to 110 km/h over exposed coastal sections.
