A 48-year-old Metchosin man was arrested and charged following reports of a person unsafely discharging a firearm inside a home, according to RCMP.

On the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 21, Mounties were called to a property near the 4600-block of Sooke Road in Metchosin for “a report of a male unsafely discharging a firearm inside a residence,” said West Shore RCMP in a news release Monday.

They say frontline officers and RCMP’s emergency response team responded, and shortly after, the man was taken into custody safely and without incident.

Police then seized firearms and ammunition.

“Following the arrest, members of the West Shore RCMP Serious Crime Unit executed a search warrant on the residence, where they located and seized firearms and ammunition,” said police.

They say the suspect has been charged with careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to order and uttering threats. He remains in custody, and his next court appearance is Wednesday, Feb. 28.
