Victoria Police say they’ve arrested a suspect after a man was randomly attacked with a hammer in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue Thursday.

Officers were called to the area just before 9:30 a.m. after hearing a man walked up behind another man and struck him in the head with a hammer in what police are calling an “unprovoked” assault.

Investigators say the attack was captured on video and went to work searching for the suspect, who was found a short distance away. He was arrested without incident and transported to holding cells.

The victim was transported by paramedics to hospital for a significant but non-life-threatening injury to his head, according to police.

The suspect has since been released from custody with a court date and was also handed conditions that he cannot contact the victim or attend the 900-block of Pandora Avenue.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call police at 250-995-7654 extension 1 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
