A new poll released Monday shows B.C. Premier John Horgan and the NDP is leading in support from decided or leaning voters in the province.

A Mainstreet Research survey of more than 1,500 British Columbians aged 18 years and older shows the NDP has 36 per cent of support from decided and leaning voters, compared to 30.7 per cent for the B.C. Liberals with new leader Andrew Wilkinson.

The agency says Horgan has roughly the same lead for support over the Liberals that he enjoyed in January.

“Premier Horgan’s popularity has not been affected by his current battle with Alberta Premier Rachel Notley over pipelines,” Mainstreet Research President and CEO Quito Maggi said.

“The NDP have significant leads in every region in British Columbia and currently are in a good position over both the Liberals and the Greens.”

Andrew Weaver’s Green Party has just under 22 per cent support while the Conservatives are backed by 8.9 per cent of respondents.

Among decided or leaning voters on Vancouver Island, NDP support is at 35.2 per cent, just 1.4 per cent more than those who would cast a ballot for the Green Party.

Island support for the Liberals is at 23.8 per cent.

Wilkinson gets the most backing among male voters in the province at 36.5 per cent, compared to 32.1 per cent in favour of the NDP.

But the poll says women are most likely to vote NDP with 40 per cent of decided or leaning voters in Horgan’s corner, compared to 24.8 per cent in favour of Wilkinson.

The NDP claims the most support in three of the study’s four age categories, with the Liberals leading among voters between 50 and 64 by a 1.5 per cent margin over the NDP.
