Someone in B.C. beat the odds and is $18 million richer after matching seven out of seven numbers to win Friday’s Lotto Max main jackpot.

The BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) says winning numbers 8, 16, 24, 28, 40, 41 and 47 from the Friday, Feb. 23 draw perfectly matched an online ticket purchased through PlayNow.com, the gambling website it owns and operates.

The bonus number was 10.

It takes a lot of lotto luck as the odds of matching all seven numbers are 1 in 33,294,800 per $5 play, according to the BCLC on its website.

It says holders of winning lottery tickets have up to one year to claim their prize, with more information about how to do so online here. Once the lucky lotto player comes forward, the BCLC will share more details about them with the public.

Vancouver Island is home to its fair share of lotto winners.

The BCLC said people on the Island claimed more than $112 million in total prizes last year alone, including in April when Sidney’s Scott Gurney scored a jaw-dropping, historic $55-million Lotto Max jackpot.
