A young swimmer was saved from drowning at a Langford pool on Jan. 27, 2019.

Lifeguards and off-duty paramedics at the Westhills YMCA-YWCA and Langford Aquatic Centre are being credited with saving the life of a young boy who nearly drowned on Sunday afternoon.

The child was seen unconscious in the pool at around 2 p.m. Jennie Edgecombe, CEO of the Y, said lifeguards pulled the child out of the pool. The lifeguards performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator (AED). Two off-duty paramedics who were in the building at the time assisted the lifeguards.

The BC Ambulance Service and the Langford Fire Department responded. The boy regained consciousness before he was taken to hospital.
