Indigenous culture podcast kicks off CHEK’s new podcasting platform

On the eve of our 64th anniversary, CHEK Media has officially launched its very own podcast platform.

The first episode of “Our Native Land” hosted by Tchadas Leo is now live.

Listeners will get a deeper look into Indigenous culture from Vancouver Island and around the world.

“Popular culture, food, history, anything Indigenous, I like to dive into and learn about that specific topic,” said Leo.

Every week Leo will bring on a guest who will break down different issues surrounding indigenous and first nations communities in a straightforward, unfiltered manner.

“It’s giving the opportunity Indigenous people to voice their opinions or voice their concerns in a way that’s easy to understand, easy to learn and gives the general public an opportunity to really understand what indigenous people are going through,” Leo said.

More podcasts are currently in the development stage, and there will also be opportunities for people outside of CHEK Media.

“The podcast studio is a way for us to start doing more. We have CHEK News, we have our own shows in house and now we have a way to produce podcasts in house and then the opportunity for community podcasters to come in and start their own podcast,” said CHEK Podcast specialist Kyle Lancaster.

The first episode of “Our Native Land” featuring B.C.’s minister of advanced education, skills and training, Melanie Mark is now available. The podcast will be released every Monday morning.
