A special weather advisory and wind warning were lifted for Greater Victoria and the Southern Gulf Islands.

Environment Canada first issued a special weather statement Sunday, and then a wind warning monday saying strong winds with gusts of 90 kilometres-per-hour were expected to blow, starting this morning.

The weather service said a cold airmass surging through the Fraser Valley extends from the south Island across the Strait of Georgia to the Chilliwack and Abbotsford area.

They predicted that winds would diminish slightly in the afternoon but would remain brisk until Tuesday morning.

The low for Victoria Monday night is minus-two, but the wind chill will make it feel like minus-10.

Environment Canada says damage to buildings could have occurred, and that high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.
