The last major component for the new Johnson Street Bridge will be installed next week, closing the span for much of Jan. 27 and 28.

The Dynamic Beast crane returns to Victoria to lift and install the 46-metre long bridge deck span.

It includes three vehicle lanes, two on-street bike lanes, a pedestrian walkway and a multi-use path that connects with the Galloping Goose and E&N Trails.

The existing Johnson Street Bridge will be closed to vehicles, bikes and pedestrians from 7 a.m. Jan. 27 to 5 p.m the following day while construction takes place.

The crane barge will sit directly below the existing bridge.

Areas near the approach of the bridge will be closed for public safety.

The city says the best view of construction work will be from the northeast side of the bridge near Canoe Club and Mermaid Wharf.

You can also view activity online on the project webcam.

The steel roadway panel will sit between the main bridge deck span and the rings, completing the entire bridge deck.

Although the bridge will look complete, the city says more work will need to be done before it is ready to open at the end of March.
