WatchCHEK Upside: Two Powell River musicians are bringing in the laughs with their COVID edition of Baby It's Cold Outside.

Two Powell River musicians have produced a unique version of a holiday classic. Brittany Service and Sean Tassell’s spoof on Baby It’s Cold Outside, entitled Baby There’s COVID Inside, is bringing the laughs.

Service and Tassell’s company Party Rock Recordings, which brings mobile recording studios into people’s homes, had to shut down during the pandemic. However, the two have stayed busy by creating virtual community music projects.

“We were downloading some music and opening it up to the community and then I would just send their recordings over to Sean, who’s the audio engineer and he would blend them all together,” says Service.

“It is a challenge, but it’s also really fun to hear everybody individually and piece them together,” says Tassell.  “It takes a while but the end product’s really fun,” adds Tassell.

When it came time to produce a COVID Christmas jingle, the two friends knew the perfect tune.

“The funny thing is that our very first duet that we did together a few years ago now was Baby It’s Cold Outside,” says Service.

All it took to get the ball rolling was a few quick texts and multiple brainstorming sessions over Zoom.

“Then we just collaborated together on different lines, we were tweaking it here and there and the final product is what you guys saw,” laughs Service.

It’s been a bright spot in a holiday season like no other.

“People are stuck at home, especially now with the new restrictions and whatnot,” says Tassell.  “I wanted to bring some humour into it and make people happy and something for them to enjoy and maybe one day we’ll do another community project and they can join in next time,” adds Tassell.
