WatchKing's Auto Sales in Langford is partnering with the Victoria Cool Aid Society to give away a 2004 Chevy Malibu to a person in need.

A Langford used car dealership is giving away a car to a family in need. King’s Auto Sales owner David King was looking for a way to celebrate his company’s first year of business and found it right in his car lot.

“We had a really good first year of business and decided that we wanted to do something to give back to our community,” says King.  “So we ran a two-week-long campaign where people had an opportunity to nominate someone that they felt was deserving of a car.”

Partnering with the Victoria Cool Aid Society, the dealership will give away a 2004 Chevy Malibu to a person in need of a vehicle. Upon hearing of the project, it was an easy yes for the Cool Aid Society.

“I first heard about it when David reached out telling me he had an idea and wanted to get together and talk,”  says the society’s manager of philanthropy Lori Angelini. “So intrigued I went to go see him and that’s where he told me his idea and I thought it was just a great idea.”

“Giving, it’s important to my family and my business and a partnership just made it feel like it was going to be portrayed as a genuine giveaway,” says King.

While registration is now closed, there were over 70 applicants, making the selection process that much harder.

“In the end, we did pick a top three, but that doesn’t mean that any of the other nominees were less deserving. It was just we had to make a choice,” says Angelini.

“It feels good to be able to give back into the community, but it’s also pretty intimidating when you see how much need there is and we struggled to get a top three,” says King.

The winner will be picked later this week and will pick up their car, which comes with three months paid insurance and a one year warranty, on Friday.
