Campbell River RCMP seize shotgun from man known to police

Mounties in Campbell River say they seized a shotgun from a man who is known to police early Monday morning.

RCMP say they were called to a home on We Wai Kai First Nations land around 6 a.m. for a report of a man “packing a case with what appeared to be a rifle in it.”

Mounties were told that the man entered a home near the Quinsam Shell gas station, just off the Inland Island Highway (Highway 19).

Officers reportedly went to the home and found a shotgun and ammunition inside.

A 46-year-old man who is known to police was also arrested at the scene, Mounties say.

The incident remains under investigation.

“If you have any information about this or any other criminal activity, please contact the Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221,” said police in a release Tuesday.

RCMP have responded to several recent firearms calls in the Campbell River area.

One day earlier, on Feb. 11, police responded to a report of a man allegedly shooting a shotgun in a driveway and cutting someone with a knife in the 100-block of Reef Crescent.

Police responded to the scene and the man attempted to flee on a dirt bike. Shortly after, he crashed and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to RCMP.

RCMP and the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. are both probing Sunday’s incident.
