“The BC Forest Discovery Centre is preparing to re-open!!!”

This is the exciting start to a Facebook post by the Centre, outlining its plans for a gradual reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic, starting Friday.

“As we move towards the ‘new normal’ please have patience with our staff and volunteers as they do their best to make each person’s visit a fun, safe, and healthy experience,” said the local tourism site.

The centre will implement new cleaning protocols to help keep everyone healthy. It recommends all visitors to head over to the BC Forest Discovery Centre’s website for full safety plan details.

The new operational hours will be five days a week Thursday to Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The centre is starting slow and steady, opening select activities gradually throughout the month of June.

From Friday, June 12 to Monday, June 15, the grounds, main building, washrooms and the schoolhouse will be open, with an admission of $5.

The Duncan staple says you are welcome to bring your picnic lunches, games and to enjoy the grounds.

The following week, on Thursday, June 18, the grounds, most major buildings and a limited concession will be open for business.

One week later, on June 25, the first train rides of the year will chug along with limited seating and proper physical distancing.

Not everything is resuming this year.

“Our summer special events – unfortunately, have been cancelled,” writes the centre. “The opening of our playground and our major Fall and Winter events are on hold pending governmental regulations.”
