BC Ferries, Victoria transit, TransLink to offer veterans free rides on Remembrance Day

Veterans will be offered free rides on BC Ferries, BC Transit in Victoria and TransLink on Remembrance Day.

Additionally, the three transportation providers will observe a minute of silence at 11 a.m. BC Ferries will fly all flags at half-mast, and BC Transit and TransLink will display a “Lest We Forget” message on the bus destination signs.

On BC Ferries, customers presenting an official Canadian military identification or travelling in uniform will be given complimentary passage, however, the complimentary fares are not available on the Inside Passage, Haida Gwaii or Central Coast Connector routes.

Seniors will also be permitted to travel for free on Remembrance Day with the presentation of BC Services Card, BC Driver’s License, BC Identification Care or a birth certificate.

On BC Transit in Victoria for regular and HandyDART routes, riders in uniform, active, retired, and cadets and those with Army, Navy or Air Force Association cards will ride for free. The buses will be operating on a regular Saturday schedule, rather than the typical Sunday schedule for holidays.

In Vancouver, TransLink will offer free rides on all services to veterans, members of the Armed Forces, police and fire departments, Coast Guard and BC Ambulance. Customers will have to present their badge, military ID, record of service card or be in uniform for free transit.

“The three transportation agencies hope this complimentary service will present veterans with convenient travel options to engage in Remembrance Day events in and around their region,” BC Transit said in a statement.
