Port Alberni Fire Crews extinguished a structure fire on 3rd Avenue late Sunday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., the fire department posted to Facebook that the road between Dunbar and Napier needed to be closed to allow crews to respond.

Mike Owens, Port Alberni’s fire chief tells CHEK News that the rear of the building has heavy fire damage and there is smoke damage throughout.

He says the owner was using it for storage and there was no one living in the building at the time and there was no one hurt or displaced due to the fire.

The cause is still under investigation.

Crews from Beaver Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Cherry Creek Fire Department, and Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department assisted in responding to the fire, which the department declared out around 11:30 p.m.
