A stowaway cat, who hopped in a moving van from Edmonton to Duncan, will be heading home to her owner this week.

Two weeks ago, the family pet somehow wound up in a neighbour’s moving van travelling more than 1,200 kilometres to Vancouver Island.

They had been on the road for at least 48 hours before they discovered the curious feline while unpacking furniture.

“She knew who the cat was as soon as they saw her,” explained Jill Oakley with Find Lost and Escaped Cats (FLEC).

On June 8, FLEC received a call from the cat’s owner who was frantically trying to get her home.

Diva is now living in a foster home in Saanich but will soon be en route to her owner.

“She’s a very easy going cat,” said volunteer Kari Anne. “I’ve never seen a cat this easy going considering the situation.”

Two people have offered to escort the cat on a flight bound for Edmonton this week.

Oakley says one of the volunteers is a WestJet employee.

“She’s been through enough so we figured we might as well give the princess an A1 ride home,” Oakley said. “We’re very happy to have helped.”
