Stephen Andrew has won Victoria’s byelection, taking a seat previously held by Together Victoria.
As of late Saturday night, Andrew won with 6,937 votes.
He beats Together Victoria candidate Stefanie Hardman, who had 3,783 votes.
The seat was previously held by Together Victoria’s Laurel Collins, who was elected as an NDP MP in 2019, leaving the seat open.
Andrew has been largely in opposition to Together Victoria, he ran on promises such as banning 24/7 camping, along with a focus on public safety and overall spending.
In a post on Twitter, Andrews thanked his supporters and promised to “lead with an open door.”
“I promise to lead with an open door, an open mind, and an open heart. My door is always open and I look forward to serving all of Victoria with honour,” he wrote.
More details can be found here.
Some experts say he was at a slight disadvantage to Hardman.
My thanks again to everyone who supported and voted, and thank you to everyone in Victoria for your passion for this city.
