‘It’s like Christmas’: Rifflandia gears up to rock Victoria this weekend

Volunteers hoist up the colourful welcome sign that will greet thousands of music lovers to Victoria’s Royal Athletic Park for the Rifflandia Music Festival.

“It sets itself a part from many other music festivals all over the world” said DJ Bryan ‘Boitano’ Capistrano of The Zone @ 91.3.

Now in its tenth year, Rifflandia will host 117 performers at multiple venues throughout the city from September 14 to 17.

The event is celebrated by local fans and professionals who work in the music industry.

“We call this our Christmas,” explained Capistrano. “It feels like the whole year leads up to this festival.”

From veteran electronic and rock performers, to up-and-coming homegrown talent, the multi-day festival has an act for everyone.

Rifflandia also has a reputation for discovering the next big performer.

“It seems like just minutes before Macklemore became a thing he played this festival,” explained Capistrano.

Festival attendees can enjoy the family friendly venue at Royal Athletic Park or take in the festival nightlife along Electric Avenue near Discovery Street.

Organizers say they are prepared to throw Victoria’s party of the year.

“People love all that Victoria has to offer,” explained event organizer Nick Blasko of Atomique Productions.

“I think one thing that Victorian’s crave is the big city energy. I think we bring that for one weekend.”

The festival nightlife begins Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at eight venues throughout Victoria.
