Constituency office of Vancouver Island MP has windows smashed in apparent act of vandalism

A constituency office in Parksville had its windows damaged in an alleged act of vandalism.

Gord Johns, MP for Courtenay—Alberni, says the vandalism to his Parksville office is unacceptable.

“My constituency office was vandalized today. This is a completely unacceptable act,” Johns said in a statement Tuesday.

“My staff have been working hard to serve our community throughout the pandemic and ensure people have the support they need. They should not be subjected to threatening or violent behaviour at their place of work. I have reported this incident to local authorities. Criminal acts are never appropriate and will not be tolerated.”

Oceanside RCMP say the windows at Johns’ office were smashed with an unknown object, and there was no entry gained.

RCMP are asking that anyone with information about this incident or with surveillance video in the area to contact the detachment at (250) 248-6111.

In response to CHEK reporter Skye Ryan’s tweet, Rachel Blaney MP for North Island—Powell River says her office was also recently vandalized.

Blaney told CHEK News the windows and door of her Campbell River office were “covered in writing and signs opposing vaccine mandates” on Sunday night.
