The B.C. government has opened dozens of new campsites at two popular campsites on Vancouver Island.

A total of 41 new campsites have been added to the China Beach Campground and Little Qualicum Campground in time for summer 2024.

As of May 9, 33 new campsites are open for reservation at the China Beach Campground in Juan de Fuca Park, just north of Jordan River.

Of those new campsites, 22 are drive-in spots and 11 are walk-in campsites.

They’re among a range of upgrades coming to the China Beach Campground.

In the fall, the province plans to build two new facilities that will include accessible showers and flush toilets. It also plans to add 13 more walk-in sites to China Beach, which will open alongside the two new washroom facilities in time for the 2025 season.

Meanwhile, eight new walk-in campsites have opened at the Little Qualicum Campground, located in Little Qualicum Falls Park, just west of Parksville.

At the same time, a handful of new campsites have also opened on the mainland, with 17 more walk-in campsites added to the Rolley Lake Campground near Mission.

“We are expanding camping opportunities in three provincial parks so more people can get outside and enjoy nature,” said BC Parks in a social media post Tuesday.

Campsite reservations can be made on the BC Parks website, and first-come, first-served campsites are also available at both the China Beach Campground and Little Qualicum Campground.
