Beach access closed on Willows Beach because of potential sewage contamination.
Oak Bay High School students looking forward to a frigid dip in the water at Willows Beach will not get that chance.
The school has announced the Polar Bear Swim has been cancelled because of an increase in fecal coliform count.
A sign at the beach from Island Health and the Capital Regional District says swimming or wading in the area is not recommended.
The closure will remain in effect until it is determined there is no risk to people’s health.
The school says students should arrive at class at 9 a.m. Friday and go to their advisory class.
The pancake breakfast and winter assembly will go ahead as planned.
