Mounties in Campbell River are warning boat-owners to remove all valuables from their vessels following a spike in thefts.

“Thieves in the community appear to be targeting boats parked in driveways of homes taking whatever they can get their hands on,” said Const. Maury Tyre.

Things that have been stolen from boats so far include everything from downriggers to lifejackets. Most of the thefts have been occurring in southern parts of the city in the Stories Beach area, according to investigators.

“Essentially if it’s not bolted down, they’ll take it,” said Tyre.

To keep your belongings safe, police are recommending owners do an inventory of what is in their boats and write down all serial numbers for valuable items.

“It’s very clear that thieves are targeting items that will be in high demand and can be resold quickly,” Tyre said.

These items are often resold on internet buy-and-sell sites at “too good to be true” prices.

Anyone with information on the recent wave of thefts is asked to call Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221.
