Victoria police say they seized two replica firearms in Beacon Hill Park Thursday but they do not believe the replicas are related to the weapon reports earlier the same day.

Police said officers, including a Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) member attached to a patrol watch, discovered the two replica guns after finding a man near a 12-foot (three-metre) utility trailer that was parked on the grass in the park Thursday morning.

While officers spoke with the man, they saw a gun case in plain view in the trailer, according to police.

Police said officers asked about the contents of the case and the man said that the case contained replica firearms.

Victoria police said the man who was near the trailer is not the same man related to the reports of a weapon in Beacon Hill Park Thursday morning. The search for that man continues.

Earlier this month, VicPD seized a replica handgun from a temporary housing facility in the 1900-block of Douglas Street, and two other replica guns on Gorge Road East. Two replica firearms were also seized by Victoria police officers on two separate occasions in June.

The Victoria Police Department told CHEK last week that between January and August of this year officers have “attended” to more than 50 files involving replica firearms.
