Victoria police arrest three, seize replica firearm

Victoria Police Department
VicPD say they found this replica handgun inside a vehicle this morning.

Another replica firearm has been seized by police in Victoria.

According to a Victoria Police Department press release, officers were called to a temporary housing complex in the 100-block of Gorge Road East at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning following reports that a man had pointed a handgun at another person.

Numerous officers arrived on scene and saw a male suspect leaving in a vehicle, which they then stopped in the 1500-block of Hillside Avenue.

The man and two other people inside the vehicle – another man and a woman – were then arrested, according to the release, which noted that officers then searched the vehicle and found a replica firearm.

The male suspect who was seen leaving the temporary housing complex was then transported to a police holding cell and is facing recommended charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, and use of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence.

Meanwhile, the two other occupants of the vehicle were released without charges.

Replica firearm seizures are becoming routine in the Victoria region, with the Victoria Police Department telling CHEK in August that they had seized more than 60 such guns so far this year.

Just last month, police officers seized a replica firearm after an incident near Quadra Elementary School.
