A Victoria cafe has temporarily closed due to COVID-19.

Bear & Joey, located at 1025 Cook St., announced on social media Friday that they will be closed indefinitely after one of their employees tested positive for the coronavirus.

The cafe says the employee worked between Sept. 17-21 but did not interact with customers, had no symptoms while at work, wore a mask and practiced hygiene at all times.

“One of our staff members has unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19. They are at home, feeling well, and we are in regular contact with them to make sure that they are ok,” Bear & Joey said on Facebook.

The cafe says although health officials assured them the chance of transmission to staff and customers is extremely low and that they could continue to operate, they have decided to close indefinitely as a precaution.

“For us, maintaining the health and safety of our staff and our community is our number one priority,” said Bear & Joey.

The cafe says they will “commence a robust review” of the establishment with officials and conduct a deep clean before reopening.

Bear & Joey said they will announce a reopening date on social media.
