Victoria Police say an officer investigating a random stabbing Thursday night was then randomly attacked by a man with a skateboard while processing the crime scene.

On Sept. 15, officers were responding to a residence in the 1400-block of Harrison Street around 9:30 p.m. for reports that Victoria Fire Department crews were administering medical care for someone with multiple stab wounds.

Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital and his wounds are now considered non-life threatening after receiving treatment.

Investigators including officers with the Integrated Canine Service and VicPD’s Forensic Identification Section responded and found a potential crime scene in the 1000-block of Pandora Avenue.

The investigators learned the victim had been sitting on a bench when confronted by a man who randomly attacked them. The victim fled and discovered they had been stabbed multiple times.

The suspect is described as a man standing 5’5″ with a medium build, facial hair, hair past his ears and what witnesses describe as an unkempt appearance.

While processing the crime scene, an officer was approached and verbally confronted by a man.

In a release, VicPD says the man, without warning, raised a skateboard and swung it at the officer’s head.

The officer was able to fight off the attack, and told the suspect he was under arrest, at which point the suspect began to flee. The officer called for assistance and two patrol officers responded and disarmed the suspect, who was arrested without further incident.

The officer was not physically harmed in the attack, but their camera was damaged.

The suspect was brought to VicPD cells and officers learned he has an outstanding warrant from another police department.

He has been released with future court dates.

Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
