Investigators with VicPD’s major crime unit are seeking witness and video footage after a downtown altercation resulted in a stabbing that sent two people to hospital Sunday morning.

Police officers were in the 700-block of Courtney Street around 1 a.m. when they were alerted by people in the area of a nearby altercation, VicPD said in a news release Monday.

According to police, officers then located two people suffering from potentially life-threatening stab wounds and provided first aid until paramedics arrived on scene.

“Both people were transported to hospital. Their injuries are considered non-life-threatening following medical treatment,” VicPD said in the release.

The investigation is in its early stages and remains active and ongoing, according to police, who say no arrests have been made at this time. They also say there is no indication of any risk to the general public.

“[Major Crimes Unit] investigators believe that there may be video of the incident, as well as people who witnessed the incident but who have not yet spoken with investigators,” VicPD added.

Anyone with cellphone, surveillance or dashcam video, or those who witnessed the incident in the 700-block of Courtney Street, is asked to call VicPD’s report desk at 250-995-7654 extension 1.
