The Vancouver Island Pinball Championship

The Island’s best pinball players have been battling it out in Victoria this weekend.

The Vancouver Island Pinball Championship “Battle for the Belt” has been taking place in Victoria all weekend long.

Games started Saturday at Quazar’s Arcade, with players going head to head and the winner of each game advancing to the next round.

The top 24 players from the entire Island — based on results from 2020 and 2021 events — qualified for the tournament, with the top 8 receiving a bye into the second round.

Dan Bitterlich, president of the Victoria Pinball League, says interest in pinball has grown ever since pinball leagues started back in September 2018.

“There’s been a lot of growth here but there’s been explosive growth in the mid-island that’s just really occurred since January,” he said. “So we’re looking forward to next year when we have more people from the mid-Island down here as well.”

Championship rounds took place Sunday at Powerhouse Pinball Club, where later tonight a winner will be handed a silver-plated championship belt.
