The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is taking over an investigation, into a serious assault on the 3900 block of Carey Road Saturday.
Officers were called to the scene around 3 p.m. following a report of a 41-year-old victim of an assault who sustained life threating injuries.
Saanich police cordoned off an area of the road in Saanich and another residence on Granderson Road in Langford following the incident. One person was also taken into custody.
Officers at the scene said that a man was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say investigators will continue to work at both locations in the coming days, and that VIICMU was called in due to the nature of the injuries of the victim.
Witnesses say first responders were performing CPR on a man on the sidewalk following the incident, and that some individuals may have fled the scene.
A K9 unit was also deployed by police and the area has been cordoned off since Saturday afternoon.
Investigators do not believe there is any risk to the public and that all those associated were known to each other.
Police are also asking for riders of the route 30 B.C. Transit bus traveling on Carey Road around 3:15 p.m. who believe they may have seen the incident or persons associated to the incident to come forward and speak with police.

The current condition of the man is unknown.
