UPDATE: RCMP said Monday that Robert Hudson was located deceased near the Nanaimo River on Sunday afternoon.

Man’s family reported him missing Saturday night

Four search and rescue teams, and RCMP are taking part in a large search near the Nanaimo River today.

They’re searching for a missing 61-year-old with advanced Parkinson’s Disease. His family is worried as he requires daily medication.

His name is Robert Hudson and he’s from Qualicum Beach.

The ground search started shortly after midnight this morning after the RCMP located his Mustang parked on the side of Nanaimo River Road. It’s an area where he’s known to go hiking and swimming.

“So a search was initiated right away,” Comox Valley Search and Rescue Manager Paul Berry said. “Teams worked through the night as well as RCMP resources and he has not been located to this point.”

Berry said they have ground teams conducting tight ground searches and swift water teams that are in the Nanaimo River looking at all the high probability areas.

A civilian search and rescue plane is also helping in the search along with an RCMP helicopter.

Update: The search was called off Sunday night with no plans to resume it. We’re awaiting details as to why.

Hudson is described as: 5’9″ and 130 pounds, medium-length curly brown hair, blue eyes. He was wearing prescription sunglasses, dark red Doc Martin boots

If anyone sees him they’re asked to call 9-1-1 or the Nanaimo non-emergency number at 250-754-2345
