Two people had to be evacuated by rescue teams after an All-Terrain Vehicle crashed near Horne Lake Sunday afternoon.

Arrowsmith Search and Rescue (ASAR) President and Search Manager Nick Rivers says they were called around 3:45 p.m. and used a helicopter to reach the quad riders.

In a Facebook post Sunday night, ASAR said the two were “badly injured but in good spirits.”

Rivers says one was taken by air ambulance to Victoria, and the other by ground to Nanaimo.

BC Ambulance Service and Deep Bay Fire Rescue assisted in the evacuation.

Rivers says the Ascent Helicopter used to reach the two riders landed about 200 metres uphill from where the crash happened.

While that evacuation was happening, ASAR was also called for help to attend to an injured horseback rider in Nanoose.

Rivers says BC Ambulance personnel were able to reach the rider who had non-life threatening injuries.
