Tofino Bus to resume service on May 4 after four month pause

After announcing a pause in service on Jan. 3, Tofino Bus will resume on May 4 operating a seasonal model.

The Wilson’s Group announced that the Tofino Bus service would pause due to a lack of passengers in January.

Starting in May, the company will be re-launching the service, with plans to have it operate seasonally between May and October.

“Revenue made during our peak season just simply isn’t enough to sustain the service 12 months of the year,” says Samantha Wilson-Newton, brand manager for The Wilson’s Group of Companies which acquired Tofino Bus back in 2018.

To start off, the service will run Thursday to Monday, with the goal of ramping up to seven days a week by June.

“We expect to see lower passenger counts to start, however, we typically see a rise around the May long weekend which lasts throughout most of the summer,” says Wilson-Newton. “We will of course continue to monitor the load demands and add more runs as needed.”

This means there will now be two companies offering the bus service to Nanaimo. After the Tofino Bus stopped service, IslandLink announced it would establish a bus on that route.
