Tofino Bus will be owned by the family that also owns Wilson’s Transportation, starting on Nov. 15.

Dylan Green, the owner of Tofino Bus, and John Wilson, president and CEO of Wilson’s Group of Companies, made the announcement on Tuesday.

Wilson’s Group of Companies includes Wilson’s Transportation, the BC Ferries Connector, Gray Line Sightseeing Victoria and the YYJ Airport Shuttle. Wilson Transportation recently expanded its routes on the mainland to fill in gaps left by Greyhound. .

However, Tofino Bus falls under another holding company also owned by the Wilsons. The name of the holding company was not released.

“John Wilson was one of the first industry partners I met when I started Tofino Bus 16 years ago. I am excited John and his family are part of this new ownership as I know our staff and customers will be in good hands,” Green said in a statement.

“We will be part of a larger group that will help us grow passenger bus services and expand our freight network on Vancouver Island, to the Mainland, and beyond. The decision makes our team stronger and improves what we can offer our passengers. I look forward to continuing my role with Tofino Bus and working closely with John and his team,’ Green said in a statement.

Tofino Bus’ name will not be changing and the service will be continuing as usual.

Tofino Bus started in 2002 as an inter-city bus and charter service. In 2015 the company expanded to include the entire island as well as a freight service, in partnership with Greyhound, to ship packages on and off the island. The company currently employs 41 people.

“I knew Dylan when he first started Tofino Bus and have worked alongside him for quite some time, when the discussions started about an acquisition, this seemed like the right fit. Our family is excited about the opportunities Tofino Bus will bring and look forward to working with Dylan and his team,” Wilson said in a statement.
