Three people have been arrested and multiple prohibited weapons including high-powered firearms as well as drugs were seized Thursday by Saanich police.
The arrests and seizures were made at a home in the 3300-block of Glasgow Avenue and were the culmination of a drug trafficking investigation in Saanich that began in January, according to police.
The investigation was CRD wide but based around a house in Saanich, according to police. The execution of a search warrant Thursday led to the arrests, one of which occurred at the home and the two others at a mall in the 1600-block of Hillside Avenue in Victoria.
Police say they found two SKS assault rifles, a modified shotgun, and a handgun. They also found ammunition in easy-to-access locations at the home’s entrance.
Additional imitation and prohibited firearms and parts were found as well along with thousands of dollars in cash and drugs believed to be fentanyl, cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine, according to police.
“Most concerning was the fact that this residence was fortified from the inside and had high-powered firearms with ammunition located just inside the entrance,” said Saanich police in a press release Friday. “This was a very dangerous situation that posed a potential risk to the police or any member of the public that would have approached this residence.”
Two of the three arrested are in police custody facing multiple firearms and drug trafficking charges, according to police.
The investigation is still open and police say they are looking to see if this case is connected to gang operations in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
